Worland is one of America's great towns. Well planned and designed, and plunging into the future with the recent addition of some fast food places. You're on your way from the Black Hills to Yellowstone. We are right on the route of Highway Sweet 16. Excellent food, good golf, famous drinking water, and an actual main street: that's us. Ah, Wyoming, where a person can still build a private shooting range on his farm or ranch. We have our own giant wooden Indian memorial, a pioneer park with a bell tower and sculpture, and the best airport around.
The land for our cemetery was donated to the City of Worland by one of the founders of the city and itís first mayor, Charles Fremont Robertson. He, his wife and other family members are buried at the head of the cemetery. He is my wifeís great, great grandfather.
This is a very well-kept and well-organized cemetery. It can be reached by driving West of Worland on US Hwy 20, to the edge of town, and taking a right turn on Hwy 433, commonly known as West River Road. The cemetery is about one mile north on the west side of the highway. The records for this cemetery are kept at City Hall in Worland, but have been organized and recorded by the Worland Soroptomist Club. They keep a computer record updated once each year, and a rollodex file and cemetery map are located in the center of the cemetery. The rollodex file is incomplete, and a number of names and grave locations are missing from the file.
Tombstone information is available, completed up to an unknown year. It contains information on graves and dates that are not in the Soroptomist list that have been added to their database. I have the paper copy of the tombstone record, and that data is being added to the Soroptomist list as time allows. When you see ***, it means more information is written on the tombstone, but there was not space to enter it into the database index. If you need this additional information, contact the website for assistance.
Also of great value is a complete extraction of Vital Records Index done by Allena Austin of Worland, Wyoming. This record represents over 10 years of hand work by Allena Austin. This index of names and dates has been taken from the Worland Grit Newspaper, 1911-1939, and the Northern Wyoming Daily News 1939-1986. Years 1968-1986 are hand written and have not been typed. These later years are in the possession of Allena Austin, 200 S. Road 11, Apt 22, Worland, Wyoming 82401. Allena will search the hand-written years. Contact me by email for research assistance. firstname.lastname@example.org
A paper record of this index is kept at the Family History Center as listed above, and has been microfilmed, by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, Family History Library. Another paper copy of the index is help at the Northern Wyoming Daily News office. The index lists names and dates for births, deaths, marriages, and obituaries, along with the edition date of the newspaper. Please check this website for the construction of this database as it is added to on a regular basis.
